Lentils Recipe


Just like beans, Lentils are one of the plant-based proteins. They are easy to prepare since they take a few minutes to cook as compared to other legumes like beans. Most Kenyans prefer taking lentils with rice or chapati.


  • 250g Raw lentils
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Royco (optional)
  • Bell pepper

Preparation Procedure

  1. Wash and boil the lentils until they are soft. Do not overcook them
  2. Drain excess water and set aside
  3. In a frying pan pour cooking oil and chopped onions and let them cook until they are slightly brown then add mashed garlic
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and bell pepper and allow them to cook until the tomatoes are well mashed
  5. Add salt, paprika, and royco and stir
  6. Add drained lentils then mix well
  7. Add a cup of water and cover for 5 minutes
  8. Lentils stew is ready to serve with chapati or rice
