Puff Puff (Kaimati) Recipe
Description
Puff Puff are sweet dough balls prepared with thick dough and deeped in cooking oil. In Kenya, they are also known as Kaimati or Sweet Dumplings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups self-raising flour
- 1 1/4 Milk/water
- 1 Egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
- Cooking oil enough to deep fry
- 1/4 cup sugar
- Cardamon
Preparation Procedure
- In a bowl mix dry ingredients that are self-raising flour, sugar, and Cardamon
- In another bowl mix the wet ingredients that is egg, milk, and vanilla essence (use water if no milk)
- Mix the wet and dry ingredients until the mixture is thick
- Heat cooking oil in a deep frying pan. check if it is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into the oil and in 5 seconds it should rise to the surface
- Use a scoop or a spoon to drop the batter in the oil. You can also use your hand to squeeze it into the oil. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
- Reduce the heat to prevent the outside from burning while the inside is not cooked
- Keep turning them until they are brown
- Using a frying spoon transfer them to a bowl with a paper towel to absorb excess oil
