Biryani Recipe
Description
Biryani is a popular rice dish along the coastal region of Kenya. It is a delicious blend of rice, meat, and various spices. It is rich in starch and proteins. Below is a simple recipe for cooking biryani the coastal way.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Rice
- Water
- Food color orange
- Cooking oil
- 500g Meat
- 2 red onions
- Tomatoes
- Maziwa mala/plain yogurt
- Tomato paste
- Salt
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Paprika
- Turmeric
Preparation Procedure
- Boil water in a cooking pot
- Add salt and orange food color
- Add washed rice and allow it to cook until it is soft
- Prepare ingredients that is blend tomatoes, chop onions, mash garlic and ginger set them aside
- Wash meat properly and boil until it is tender
- In a frying pan pour cooking oil and add onions let them cook until they are golden brown
- Add mashed garlic and ginger and mix
- Add paprika and turmeric powder then add boiled meat and mix
- Add blended tomatoes, tomato paste, and maziwa mala/ plain yogurt mix properly
- Add salt and allow it to simmer for 5 minutes
- Biryani is ready to be served
