Description
Omena is a tiny fish mostly found in Lake Victoria, Kenya. To savor the tastiest Omena dish, look for chefs from the Lake regions, particularly the Luo ethnic group, as they are known to cook the most delicious Omena. The most common way to cook Omena in Kenya is by frying it and adding tomatoes on top. You can enjoy it with Sukuma Wiki and Ugali. Omena is rich in protein and a good source of iron.
Ingredients
- Omena
- Salt
- Onions
- Cooking oil
- Tomatoes
- Coriander
Preparation Procedure
- Wash Omena with hot water and drain the water
- In low heat pour cooking oil into the frying pan
- Add the drained Omena and salt
- Fry them until they are crunchy. You can eat them crunchy or make it a stew
- In a different pan fry onions then add tomatoes
- Add a pinch of salt and let the tomatoes cook until they are mashed
- Add the crunchy Omena and mix (add a little milk it is optional)
- Add chopped coriander
- Let them cook for 5 minutes
- Omena is ready serve with ugali and sukuma wiki
